Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings was born August 8, 1896 in Washington D. C. She purchased an orange grove in Cross Creek, Florida in 1928. Her surroundings in Florida inspired Rawlings to write fiction including the novels:

  • Jacob's Ladder
  • South Moon Under
  • Cross Creek
  • Sojourner
  • Golden Apples
  • Mountain Prelude
  • Gal Young "un"
  • Cross Creek Cookery

She is best known for the novel The Yearling. Her books reflect her love of the land and people of north central Florida. She continued to write until her death on December 14,1953.
