Sam Ragan is a poet, famous to older North Carolinians. He was born on December 31, 1915, in Southern Pines, NC. He grew up on a farm, not on golf course. (Golf is famous in the area!) He was the editor and publisher of the newspaper, "The Pilot." He graduated from Atlantic Christian College. The people and places of North Carolina are reflected in his work, especially his poetry. He has published at least four books of poetry, and a book of "Collected Poems." His advice to aspiring authors is "write; write what you feel; write what you think, and be honest - especially to yourself."
