Lopez Sicardo School
San Juan, PR
|
Lopez Sicardo is a school that has technology and has had technology resources for some time. Yet, just recently the technology is truly being used. The change has been gradual but very noticeable ever since a software evaluation day was conducted by SEIR*TEC partner, Learning Innovations. No longer is the schools computer lab a place used by a few technology-savvy staff and students. The school has opened the door to the lab by involving all the teachers in the software evaluation day and by encouraging students to use the lab with their parents and younger siblings. Now the schools teachers and students as well as the parents and pre-schoolers from the housing project behind the school are coming to the lab on a regular basis. The pre-schoolers regularly cross the two-and-a-half foot fence separating the school grounds from the housing project to use the lab. The parents, staff, and student take advantage of the labs open door until eight oclock at night. With discipline incidents and absenteeism decreasing, the administration believes that technology is what will get and keep the kids in school; thus, the door will remain open! |
